Construction of the first spire
According to the official Notre Dame website, the first spire built was a bell tower that, in the seventeenth century, featured up to five bells. It was dismantled from 1786 to 1792.
The picture above shows the silhouettes of various spires. A spire is an architectural feature, an arrow-like, tall and pointed structure, usually rising from church towers or skyscrapers. Meanings associated to spires include wealth, power, and proximity to the divine.
