The North Rose is credited to Jean de Chelles, and it is dedicated to glorifying the Virgin Mary, who is shown at the center of the 13-meter diameter circle. Her figure is surrounded by circles of prophets and figures from the Old Testament and judges, kings and priests of Israel and Judah.
