None of the adults had any interest in art, and if the subject was taught at school Martin has no recollection of it. She does recall doing a lot of drawing at home with her older brother. At eight or nine, she was saving her pocket money to buy prints of famous paintings. They were a little bigger than postcards, and they came in a series. She vividly remembers the first one she bought -- Millet's "Angelus". Then Agnes and her brother would try to copy the prints.
