Whitney Museum retrospective

The reasons for Martin's relative obscurity have much to do with the cult of celebrity that came to dominate post-nineteen-fifties America. Unlike her better-known peers, Martin had never been accorded a retrospective by a major American museum until the Whitney gave her one, last November.
